El Paletero

El paletero, which can be translated into English as a man who sells popsicles on the street.  This man combs the neighborhoods of Panama promoting his products, “paletas, paletas”.  Due to our warm climate, he has many clients, especially kids.  He is noted for three small bells always announcing his presence.

This paletero was selling his frozen products at Parque Urraca during a recent political manifestation against then president Juan Carlos Varela.  The shot was taken with a mirrorless Fujifilm X-30 camera without a tripod.

“Essentially what photography is is life lit up.”Sam Abell
