Some time ago, Apple had an original and extremely successful promotional campaign known as “Think Different”. It made the general public raised their eyebrows about Apple products and how it best served their needs—specifically the Apple iPhone.
In photography there is a composition technique known as “Seeing Differently” based on the fact that beauty can be discovered on just about anything. That being said, you need to take a hard look at the subject with a different and original perspective before you take the shot. An everyday and seemingly ordinary object can be morphed into a beautiful one just by shooting under a totally new perspective; one that most people had never done before.
For example, my wife has an old dust remover which she uses on a daily basis to remove dust resting on the surface of our furniture in the living room and elsewhere around the house. I saw it being used all the time, but never thought much about it. It was just that, an old everyday cleaning utensil. That is until a few days ago, when I decided to light it up and shoot it with a macro lens. The results were totally unexpected. Take a look at what came out of my Canon DSLR camera:
Beauty is elusive. It hides under the rocks, inside dark cracks out of view, in the shadows of the trees in a forest, beneath the surface of the water and other unseen places. Yet, if you look and see with a new perspective, like Cinderella’s pumpkin, it will morph into the most beautiful subject you ever expected. It happened to me and it can happen to you too. Just do it!
