    1. Yes Abe. They are made outof thin strips of bamboo as you correctly commented. I thought it was an original idea to hand make balls out of this cheap material. Excellent subject to capture on a photograph too.

    the second ball looks somewhat like the tallo used to tie up tamales in banana leaves? Another one of the things I love about Panama: need to wrap something up for cooking, grab a handy banana leaf and tie it up with a string from the bark. No tin foil, SaranWrap or other non-natural material to haul to the landfill. A perfect system.

    1. I really don’t know, Jim. To me it looks like Bamboo thin strips. The tallo strings are softer and easily folds, thus its popular use to tie up tamales in Panama and elsewhere.

      The more we use organic materials, the less our Mother Earth suffers. Sooner or later we will be forced to recycle and use organic materials in the future. The turning point is around the corner.
