The Music Cash Queens

I knew the music industry rakes in a lot of cash; but I had no idea female singers were getting such a large slice of the pie.

Forbes Magazine recently came up with a list of the richest women in the music world. What do you know? None other than Madonna tops the list. According to this reputable financial magazine, Madonna is the richest woman in music.

The 49-year-old entertainer leads Forbes list of the top 20 “Cash Queens of Music,” earning $72 million between June 2006 and June 2007.

The magazine said Madonna’s “Confessions” world tour pulled in $260 million. She also made money from album sales, her fashion line with H&M and a deal with NBC to broadcast her concert performance at London’s Wembley Stadium.

This is the way Forbes Magazine listed the top ten wealthiest women in music:

1. Madonna – $72 million
2. Barbra Streisand – $60 million
3. Celine Dion – $45 million
4. Shakira – $38 million
5. Beyonce – $27 million
6. Gwen Stefani – $26 million
7. Christina Aguilera – $20 million
8. Faith Hill – $19 million
9. The Dixie Chicks – $18 million
10. Mariah Carey – $13 million

It’s interesting to point out that troubled Britney Spears ranked 14th on the list, earning $8 million from music royalties and sales of her fragrances with Elizabeth Arden. She cashed in more money than Jennifer Lopez and Sheryl Crow who made $6 million each. If she could put her act together, her cash machine would swallow in many more Washington heads.
