Richard and Jim & Nena:

@Richard: Not many roosters in Panama City, although I can hear them at the crack of dawn.

@Jim and Nena: In Bocas del Toro where I lived, many people were passionate about cock fights. Never went to one; thought it was unfair to the fighting roosters. Same applies to bull fights.

Regards,

Omar.-

Morning Linda:

You are warm. According to Wikipedia, <em>"Other heraldic animal officially used by the French nation includes the French Imperial Eagle, symbol of the First French Empire under Napoleon I."</em>

Having said that, the rooster is more closely related to France than the eagle, thus the cock on the top of the obelisk to honor France the first to attempt the construction of the Panama Canal.

Bye,

Omar.-

I didn't know that, about the symbolic importance of the rooster. Nice photo, and a nice memorial.

Funny, that the first thing I thought about when I saw the rooster and read "France" was - Napolean!

Morning Linda:

Thanks a bunch for your comments. Sometimes for me it's difficult to decide what to use; black & white or color. Normally I have a tendency to use B&W, specially when the colors are sharp and the light is strong.

Bye,

I think this is one of those photos where the color really helps. Also, the slightly larger frame of reference. It helps to show how the dome fits into its surroundings, and it seems more attractive.

I must confess - yesterday, with the black and white, I couldn't get past seeing those small decorative pieces around the dome as darning eggs! Granted, you'd have to have some really big socks to use them, but still... I like this photo better. Very nice!

Hi Imran:

Panama has no discrimination regarding religion or race whatsoever. The official religion of the nation is Roman Catholic, but we have the presence of the major religions of the world which coexist peacefully with each other.

Islamic mosques are all located with a few miles from downtown Panama City. You can easily get to a mosque either by bus or taxi. No problem getting to a mosque in this country.

Enjoy your trip to Panama.

Omar.-

Hello Omar:
I plan to take a trip to Panama sometime this August and was indeed very happy to see the pictures of mosques you have shot. Just one question, are Muslims discriminated in Panama in any way? How far are the mosques from decent residential areas ? Thank you,
