I almost said something in your post on threads about Grandma’s (and Mom’s) button boxes. They were wonderful for a child to paw through, too. We used the buttons for so many things – for play money, for game markers, for “food” for our dolls. Some we just admired for their beauty – I see some pretty and unusual ones here, too.
Hello Linda:
I clearly recall that my mother had literally hundreds of buttons of every kind, shape and form in jars. No garment would be discarded without being stripped of the zippers and buttons. We never bought buttons in our house, we had enough for exportation.
I don’t detect this disposition to save your pennies amongst our younger generation. Nowadays everything is disposable.Buy, use and throw away.
I guess that’s what came to my mind when I saw a small collections of buttons accumulated by my wife. Walking through memory lanes is nice.
Best Regards,
Omar.-
