Acrobatic Planes in Panama
June 16, 2012 by Omar Upegui R.
During an airshow, the Twisters, my wife and I had the opportunity of viewing an amazing display of courage, skill and accuracy of acrobatic pilots making unbelievable air maneuvers in the sky. There were three planes in all. One of the pilots was at least over seventy-years old, yet he handled his aircraft like a young Top Gun.
When the planes landed, I dashed over to where they were grouped and took the following pictures. The Twisters were over the moon. They had never been to a plane show, neither had my wife. It was a rewarding experiences which will not be forgotten for many years to come.
Below are several shots of the dancing stars of the sky. Here we go.

Snapshot of one of the mavericks of the sky posing for the camera. As you can see he is not a young man, yet he could handle those flying machines like a young Top Gun. Indeed, old age is a state of mind, it has nothing to do with the accumulation of time. Photo by ©Omar Upegui R.

WoW! Now you are talking airshow!
Morning.
When one sees a young, skilled pilot, one is impressed. When one sees an old, skilled pilot, one should be in awe. Old and daring is a whole other level of skill in the aerobatic world.
I was surprised to see “N” numbers as those are USA registry. Those “N” numbers are searchable, here’s the one for N716GW:

Many times there are additional photos and a complete history. This one seems to be a regular performer in airshows.
I am guessing the aircraft were flown there and then back with fueling stops along the route. That itself is a daring feat.
Thank you for introducing the Twisters to another dimension to their world. One can only wonder which direction it will take them?

Morning Jim & Nena:
Yes, the planes and the pilots were specially brought from the United States for the show. The Panama authorities wanted the event to be first class, and indeed it was. The kids obviously were over the moon.
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s post; it will depict some of the acrobatics made by these artists of the sky.
Regards,
Omar.-
Interesting, that expression “over the moon”. I think it must be a British-ism. I’ve only heard it a couple of times, once on a video of a Britain’s Got Talent video, and once in a Britisher’s blog.
Or, it may be a regional expression here that I’ve just not bumped into. It certainly is expressive!
We have a fellow who flies a plane like that yellow one regularly. The go out over the bay – I used to think it was so they didn’t crash into houses if things went bad, but now I’m thinking it might be because of fewer thermals over the water. Fun post!
That’s exactly where I learned about the idiom, “over the moon”. Paul Potts, a contestant at the talent’s show, “Britain’s Got Talent”, commented about being “over the moon” regarding the reaction of the jury when he sang Giacomo Puccini’s Nessun Dorma.
I recall his performance was most impressive and totally unexpected. Now, Mr. Potts is highly recognized as an international opera singer.
Yes ma’am, it’s a British expression I’ve transferred to my humble blog.
Best Regards,
Omar.-
