After a long struggle with the union of taxi drivers, all taxis in Panama are now painted yellow with a checkered band on both sides of the cars. They look very much like taxis I’ve seen in the city of New York.
Below is a picture of the taxi that drove us to the top of Ancon Hill a couple of months back. It belongs to the father of “The Twisters”. His name is Alcibiades.
Yellow taxis are part of the cambio undertaken by Ricardo Martinelli, the current President of the Republic of Panama. The country is buzzing with cambios on a 24/7 basis.

Now if they would just make the cars without the heavy tinted windows. I like to see who is in the car. And some of the loud mufflers could go too. And the cars who have their music turned up so much the car vibrates.
Hi Old Timer:
I hear you. I know they are working on the tinted windows issue. Loud mufflers and loud music will follow suit. Changing culture is a slow process.
Take Care,
Omar.-
Omar,
Gorgeous palm trees…! On the heavy tinted windows, I agree with Old Timer. I even insist: “I like to see and bee seen”.
Best regards,
Hilda
Hi Hilda:
Yep, absolutely. Many crimes can be avoided by clearing up the windows. I have tinted windows, but not much. It helps to filter out the sun rays and cool the car inside.
Thank you for your consistent comments,
Omar.-
