Photograph of a walkway flanked with purple flowers at the University of Panama. Photo by ©Omar Upegui R.
This picture reminded me of a gentle poem written by Robert Frost dubbed, “A Late Walk”. Poetry can be so soothing to the spirit, as well as pictures of Nature.
A Late Walk
by Robert Frost
When I go up through the mowing field,
The headless aftermath,
Smooth-laid like thatch with the heavy dew,
Half closes the garden path.
And when I come to the garden ground,
The whir of sober birds
Up from the tangle of withered weeds
Is sadder than any words
A tree beside the wall stands bare,
But a leaf that lingered brown,
Disturbed, I doubt not, by my thought,
Comes softly rattling down.
I end not far from my going forth
By picking the faded blue
Of the last remaining aster flower
To carry again to you.

The walkway is quite nice as is your photo of it.

Omar:
Robert Frost is a distant relation of mine. If you were to Google “Phamous Philbricks” you’d also find that I’m related to Winston Churchill, too. His mom, you know, was an American and a descendant of Thomas Philbrick who came to what is now the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1630 as I am. My favorite distant relative, though, is Frank Cady who played Sam Drucker, the storekeeper on the television show Green Acres.
Hi Richard:
Wow! You have a marvelous genealogy. Being related to Robert Frost and Winston Churchill must be quite an experience. Wouldn’t you be interested in writing a book about your life? With your writing style and past experiences both in the U.S. and abroad, I’m sure you can get it published. With current digital technology, printing a book and marketing it over the Internet is not that complicated.
A few extra bucks are most welcomed. Maybe the proceeds would exceed the sale of the boat. Think about it.
Regards,
Omar.-
