A tough old cowboy from south Texas counseled his grandson that if he wanted to live a long life, the secret was to sprinkle a pinch of gunpowder on his oatmeal every morning.

The grandson followed this advice religiously until the day he died at age 103.

He left behind 14 children, 30 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, 24 great-great-grandchildren, and a 15-foot hole where the crematorium used to be.

The trend nowadays is to be mobile.  After the aggressive penetration of the cell phone into our lives, we feel cool by being connected to our friends and relatives anywhere we go.  The mobile phones are so ubiquitous, you rarely see somebody go out without his or her cellphone.  The gadget just has to be there with you, even if it doesn’t ring.  It gives you a certain sensation of being part of the human race.  Without it, we’re practically naked.  Using a sophisticated term, I would say that a mobile phone is our alter ego.  There’s almost one cell phone for every citizen in Panama.  That’s a lot of phones.  Connectivity is the name of the game.

This brings me to the point of this post.  Recently I went to the Pedestrian Street to aid a tourist to buy several latin music CDs.  We couldn’t find anything similar to what he was looking for, even though we sneaked into several music stores.  As we strolled through this busy street, I noticed a beauty parlor right in the middle of the street.  One young woman was having a pedicure in a mobile salon.  It brought to my mind,  the trendy mobile nature of our Panamanian society.

This is what I saw right there in the middle of Avenida Central on a busy Tuesday morning.  Here we go.

Oh…I’ve also seen mobile barber shops on this street too.  I wonder what’s next?  That’s the job of a photographer, walk with his or her eyes wide open looking for surprises.  Good Day.
