Microsoft recently revamped its Internet Web browser to version IE8 in an effort to reverse the downhill trend for more than one year. Their slice of the pie has been declining monthly as Firefox and Safari are steadily climbing.
According to Net Applications, Microsft had a global market share of 67.5 percent in March 2009 against Firefox 21.7 percent and Safari 8 percent. In a period of one year, Microsoft IE has lost 7.4 percent market share. And this hemorrhage is continuing, even as we speak.
There’s no reason to not upgrade if you’re an old fan of IE, and there’s even a few things in IE 8 for new users. Even though there are some nice usability features in IE 8, I think that Internet Explorer has a long way to go to replace the damage that the notoriously insecure IE 6 did to its reputation.
The new release which was announced last Thursday, meant to speed up common Web surfing tasks and bringing the browser’s security measures in line with those of major competitors. Nothing that will lift your eyebrows. It’s more like catching up with Firefox, Chrome and Safari.
